Orofino Tribal Youth Organize and Decide to Help The Less Fortunate
An Orofino Youth Council was formed at the end of last school year 2002-03. The Orofino Youth Council hopes to meet once a week and their next meeting is scheduled for January 7, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at the Teweepuu Community Center.
Elections were held by the youth in November and the following students were elected as officers:
Chairperson - Carmelita Nahsonhoya
Vice-Chairperson - Jazmine Johnson
Treasurer - Robin Johnson
Secretary - Gabrielle Hill
Seargent of Arms - Bobby Johnson and Trevor Johnson
Other members include: Mathew Lerandeau, Ahla Johnson, Dorothy Baker, Nika Hill, Berta Johnson, Tracy Anderson, Stephen Heibert and Sebastian Hiebert.
During meetings held by the Orofino Youth Council, they discussed what they would like to do as youth leaders and by consensus, they decided they really wanted to raise money for the less fortunate. The idea came to life when they decided to have a fundraiser for the Nez Perce Tribe's Children's Home.
The Orofino youth are selling raffle tickets to raise money for the Tribe's Children's Home. Items on the raffle tickets are still being gathered and if you would like to donate an item or items you can do so by dropping items off at the Administration Department in Lapwai or the Teweepuu Center in Orofino.
