The Idaho Supplementation Studies (ISS) is a research project to determine whether or not artificial propagation (hatchery rearing) of spring/summer salmon can be used to maintain or increase natural production while maintaining the long term fitness of the target population and keeping ecological and genetic impacts on other populations at a minimum. The study will help determine if supplementation can be used as a tool to help recover decimated natural stocks of spring/ summer salmon throughout Idaho. A total of 31 streams in the Clearwater and Salmon River sub-basins are included in the research. This project is a cooperative effort between the Nez Perce Tribe, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
