Final
design planning work has begun for new Northeast Oregon hatchery facilities.
This project will construct a new hatchery on the Lostine River, build a
new adult fish weir and trap on the Lostine River, repair Lookingglass Hatchery
and the Imnaha Gumboot satellite facility. We anticipate construction to
begin in 2006 and finish in 2008.
As with other Production projects, more than a decade of planning has gone into bringing the project to a construction phase that implements a 25-50 year fish rearing program. Our long term goal is to maintain high waters of instream spawners that will allow the Tribe to routinely manage harvest of these fish. Funding of planning, construction, operation and monitoring is provided by Bonneville Power Administration mitigation to compensate for impacts of the hydrosystem.
Rebuilding adult returns provides a dual opportunity for tribal harvest in the Columbia River Zone 6 and locally on the Grande Ronde and its tributaries.
