Land Services Program
VISION
To provide land management services to the NPTEC and
individual-Indian landowners that provide economic benefit while protecting and
enhancing their natural and cultural resources.
GOALS
- To
manage agricultural lands through a leasing process that preserves long-term
productivity and maximizes revenue.
- To
provide services to NPTEC and individual-Indian landowners on land use
planning, noxious weed control, environmental site assessments, and other
technical services.
- To
use Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to provide comprehensive
land-based information and related technical assistance to all Tribal
programs.
- To
develop and promote the use of biological control agents (insects) for the
control of noxious weeds.
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES
The Land Services Program has 3 major areas of service.
The program is responsible for writing Conservation Plans of Operations
for all agriculture leases, based on owner input and wise land use practices.
Technical assistance is provided at landowners requests, such as field
and boundary maps, field inventories, and compliance investigations.
The GIS Program provides services to all Tribal programs on
map production, database design, data storage and retrieval, and analysis of
spatial information. All
information is documented and available over the Tribal network using GIS
software. Color copier services are
available on a walk-in basis for a minimal fee.
The Nez Perce Biocontrol Center’s purpose is to raise,
distribute and monitor insects that consume noxious weeds.
The Center currently raises or can acquire 16 insects that are natural predators
to 6 different noxious weeds. Each insect is specific to one weed and
several weeds have multiple insects. The
insects are now only raised and collected on established field nursery sites.
Future production will be at controlled nursery sites.
