VISION
The Nez Perce Tribe USDA Food and Nutrition Services - Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservation (FDPIR) is designed to promote a general welfare and to safeguard the health and well-being of the Nation's Indian population by raising the levels of nutrition among eligible low-income households living on or near an Indian reservation. The Nez Perce Tribe Food Distribution Program provides two distribution locations at the headquarters in Lapwai and satellite office in Kamiah.
GOALS
The Nez Perce Tribe USDA Food and Nutrition Services - Food Distribution Program are taking steps toward meeting the needs of single and family households by providing valuable information on nutrition education, proper food handling, storage safety, menu planning for special dietary needs, making home deliveries to shut-ins and provide a well balanced food package through use of audio-visual aids, brochures or hands on cooking demonstrations that will enhance a healthier life styles.
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE
The Nez Perce Tribe USDA Food and Nutrition Services provides surplus commodity foods to needy families on or near the Nez Perce Indian Reservation.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS
Food Distribution provides a commodity food package to low-income families who meet the eligibility requirements. Outreach shall inform potentially eligible household re: food program. Referral shall obtain information about general requirements of other available assistance programs. Bilingual outreach, certification material & staff or interpreter as specified. Nutrition Education shall provide the benefits of USDA commodities and how they can be used to contribute to a nutritious diet. Cook books are available.
