Nez Perce Arts Council Biography

 

Angel McFarland-Sobotta is an enrolled member of the Nez Perce Tribe and a direct descendant of Chief Red Grizzly Bear and Old Chief Joseph. She is the Nez Perce Language coordinator and the Nez Perce Arts Council chairperson. She has written & performed in the Nez Perce legend plays. She also wrote the scripts for “Walking on Sacred Ground–The Nez Perce Lolo Trail” and also wrote and narrated “Surviving Lewis and Clark–The Nimiipuu Story” winning the Aurora and Telly awards respectively.

She has been employed with the Nez Perce Language Program for 12 ½ years. In 2007 she became the first student of the Nez Perce Language to become State of Idaho and Nez Perce Tribe Certified to teach the Nez Perce language.

As a graduate from University of Washington, Angel received her B.A. as a General Studies major focusing on Public Relations/Indian Studies. She is in the process of entering graduate school at the University of Idaho creating an interdisciplinary Masters focusing on the Nez Perce Language
